The shop in the top 2 pictures, one owned by Fahys and then Joyce was owned by the Hearn family. George Hearn owned it till 1910 when there was a bad fire which gutted the place. After the the family emigrated to America. There are a lot of the Hearns in Abbey Street cemetery on the gable wall of the Abbey. Michael Hearn is in a grave right in front.

Just a note about Commercial Hotel where my grandfather and his forefathers before him were born:

The Cunningham family sold that property early 1900's as my great grand father aged and they moved to Jenning's Bar beside the bridge on Bridge Street. The local organist Baby Cunningham and two priests, Canon Constantine (VF and VG, Parish Priest of Clifden) and Monseignor Charles (Flushing, Long Island) were my grandfather's siblings. Sadly Patrick Joseph died when my mother was only an infant in 1921 during the Civil War. All the older Cunningham graves are in the Abbey Cemetary except for my grandfather who is buried with the Flanneries of New Street due to a fall-out with his step-mother Minni Martin of Foxhall (old Con's second wife). By her death in the 1930's nothing remained of a two hundred year business. The Cunningham name died with my mother, Mary T. Lyons of New Street.
