What a lovely surprise to receive this lovely photo from Ms Anne Brophy including the name of those photographed.

According to Anne, the attached photo [see below] features Ballinrobe families who would have lived in the town from the 1930s onwards - mainly on Glebe St. New St and Bridge St.

Unfortunately most of these family names have disappeared from the town, but maybe some relatives will connect with them.

Luckily, for once, the names are recorded on the back of the photo.

Back row, left to right: Nora O'Donnell, Anne O'Donnell, N. Gleeson, Josie O'Donnell, Ruby Wynne, Christy Power.

Front row, left to right: Micko Sweeney, Gus Lydon, Bernie O'Keefe, T. Hession, Mary Burke.

Two names ring a strong bell. Pictured here, I believe is Nora O'Donnell (born 21 Jan 1927) and Mary Josephine "Josie" (born 29 Jan 1925). Their mother and father were Mary Burke (Lough Mask Cottages) and Michael O'Donnell. Mary Burke would be my grant aunt. Her sister Catherine is my grand mother.

My great grandfather and mother Martin and Margaret Burke lived in the cottages on Lough Mask Rd. They are buried in Ballinrobe in the 1940s I believe (there is no date on the stone). They had 9 children, one was a Christina or Christine. My grandmother was Catherine who immigrated to USA /NY in 1921 along with her sister Nellie 2 years later. A son William was a WW1 Connuaght Ranger KIA 1916 and buried in Greece. A brother Matthew was killed South Mayo Brigade. Another brother John was instituionalized after WW1 and died in the 1970s, buried in Balinrobe. Another Thomas immigrated to US and lost his life due to injuries sustained in WW2. Other sisters moved to England. The family moved to Ballinrobe from Galway around 1905-1910.  I too would love to know more or find cousins.

My mum and her sister, Mary Kathleen and Irene Cavanagh lived in Ballinrobe in the building with their dressmaking shop on Glebe St in the late 1940s.

Thank you for your contribution Kathy; it is much appreciated

My Grandfather Michael Moffatt lived on Glebe street in the 1930s. I know he was still there in 1937 according to newspapers. The Burke family liveed on Main Street and Glebe Street. My Grandmother Christina Burke was married to Michael Moffatt. Christina's Father was Martin Burke although I don't know the name of her mother.

I am not sure if or how long they stayed in Ballinrobe but would love to know if I have any cousins there.

Great to hear from you Dale and thank you for the information.

I believe my family lived on Glebe around and/or before this time. Jennings's and possibly some Cooney's.

Wonder if anyone remembers?.
