This Easter is upon us, and it is different to before

No joyful family gatherings, no visitors at the door

No chats or cups of coffee, with neighbour or close friend

No Easter sermons to go to, no Masses to attend

The homecomings we had planned for months, have all been put on hold

The changes that have taken place, no one could have foretold

The plans have all been cancelled, for the trips from overseas

The dreaded Corona virus, has brought us to our knees

This virus knows no borders, no colour, class or tribe

Cults, religions, rich or poor, no one can unsubscribe

So accept the things we cannot change, and just go with the flow

Compare it to the first Easter, all those many years ago

For when you make comparisons, some are very clear

There was pain and lots of heartache, loneliness and fear

There was isolation, helplessness, torture, hurt and loss

All those things together, made up a heavy cross

And as Jesus struggled carrying it, he got help along the way

Simon of Cyrene was like, our heroes of today

But all the sadness came to pass, and our Lord rose from the dead

And life returned to normal, just like the scriptures said

And the battle we are going through now, we will soon conquer and win

And just like all those years ago, we will rise again

And I believe that we will change, and appreciate life more

Be kinder and more considerate, than we ever were before

As a people we will be closer, for we have come to realise

No one is superior; we are all equal in God’s eyes

And now I am going to finish, but just before I do

I want to wish a happy, healthy Easter, to every one of you
