33 Monica Horan, Coolisduff, Kilmaine
Monica is no stranger to ‘heritage places’ hailing from Trillick in Co Tyrone. Together with her husband Padraic Horan [nephew of Monseigneur Horan] they operated a successful pub/grub business on Bowgate St in Ballinrobe before building a new home on the outskirts of Ballinrobe at Coolisduff, where they raised their family.
Supporting Parent & Toddlers and Scouts
Bringing her management skills with her she started a parent & toddler group and was actively involved in the Ballinrobe Scouts for many years before holding the post of Chairman for some time.
A Lady with many Different Hats
Monica has successfully worn many hats, most recently being employed as co-ordinator with the Ballinrobe Business/Traders Association promoting the many facades of Ballinrobe including being instrumental in the revitalisation of the Ballinrobe Festival, of which she is Chairman; it has been going from strength to strength with something for everyone.
Member of the Board
Monica is a board member representing the Ballinrobe community on the South West Mayo Development Company whose goals are to sustain and develop the people, communities, resources and the environment of the South and West Mayo area, and to create and foster employment and economic opportunities through the proper use of these resources. To promote, support, assist and engage in social development, enterprise development to facilitate rural and urban regeneration or community development, designed to benefit and promote the welfare of local communities or to deal with the causes and consequences of social and economic disadvantage or poverty.
Supporting Projects
Other successful ventures she supported was the rejuvenation of the Christmas Market and the Halloween/Easter weekends for families and more recently organising the Blacksmith Festival, St. Patrick’s Day Parade, and Afternoon Tea Dance.
Childrens’ Activities
She is also involved in many activities for the children of Ballinrobe and hinterland including The Teddy Bear’s Picnic, the Duck Race on the Bower’s Riverside Walk, Santa at the Library to name but a few and not to mention all the fundraising she does for Meals on Wheels, Cancer Research and the many other supports provided by Tacu the local Family Recourse Center where her office is located.
Monica has been involved with the vibrant committee for the #BelieveinBallinrobe campaign.
