Visit to Inchagoill Island

By Pat Higgins

Fr. Augustine Valkenburg at the island of Inchagoill which is the most famous and most visited on Lough Corrib and only a few miles from Ballinrobe.

The name Inchagoill comes from 4 Irish words “ Inis an Ghaill Crabhthigh”:the Island of the devout foreigner.

This island is also home to a number of ancient monastic ruins, some dating back to the 5th Century including Lugnaedon’s Stone.
