RIC Barracks, Ballinrobe

By Averil Staunton

Would anybody have any information on a Thomas Gannon and the RIC Barracks in Ballinrobe?

I am told that my GG Grandfather had 3 children while he was stationed there, Michael Patrick, James Joseph and Sarah Margaret all born c. 1890 and baptized in Ballinrobe.

I would appreciate any information at all on the Gannons or on the Barracks.

Thanks you,

Peg Gannon McCoy

Where are the Barracks of Balinrobe, Co Mayo. That is where my x Grt Grandfather was a Sargent.

At one stage is was located where Michael McDarby's Solicitors office is located and another at the old post-office near the RC church. They were also located at the Cavalry Barracks in the early 1800's

Hi Peg and Brian Gannon,

My Great grandfather's brother was based at Ballinrobe with the RIC.

He was married on 26th June 1893 and the marriage certificate shows this as his residence. His name was John McGouran (from Meenscovane, Kerry) and his wife was Anastacia Laffan. Her father, John Laffan, was also RIC.

Any info would be brilliant.

Regards, Fran
