Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan

This first panel on the right side as you face the altar, tells the story of Jesus being baptised by John the Baptist.

You will notice the reflection of Jesus’s feet as he stands in the rippling water of the Jordan. A large shell is used to hold the flowing baptism water. Jesus wears jewel-like robes with bare legs. John the Baptist’s robe is more subdued green/brown as it represents animal skins.

The predella:  depicts the story of Jesus disputing with the Pharisees in the Temple. Jesus as a young boy is seated with his feet resting on a foot-stool dressed in vibrant red. The Jews are dressed in a traditional style; discarded texts lie on the floor.
