Presentation of Jesus at the Temple

The richly green clad Joseph holds a wicker cage in his left hand containing two white birds for sacrifice. St. Simeon, (with halo) representing a high-priest, holds the infant Jesus in his hands.

Depicted in robes of blue, Mary’s feet are slightly elevated over stone steps as she raises her hands towards her son.

An angel holds a golden lantern above their heads.

The predella relates to the story of the meeting of Joachim and Anna at the Golden Gates of Jerusalem who, according to tradition are Mary’s parents.
