Mayo's award winning Racecourse!

By Averil Staunton

While racing at Ballinrobe has taken place for centuries, a recorded race meeting took place in 1773 according to The Sweeney Guide to the Irish Turf.

Hugh crowds attended but, who could have imagined the progress that has been made since the time of stone wall jumps, marquees and horsepower to get there, to the modern facilities for racegoers that have been developed at Ballinrobe Racecourse 247 years later?

The ladies would have enjoyed displaying their style of those olden days c 1770s but could never have imagined the technology that would allow them to display their finery from their own homes, and take part in a Virtual Fashion Day at the Ballinrobe races?

Watch out for Friday July 17th 2020 for a new way to participate in a Virtual Ladies Day 2020, sponsored by The Lodge at Ashford Castle only 10km from Ballinrobe.

Do tell your friends and have great fun getting your style together.
